//CONSTRUCTION & DESIGN
//The materials are all the highest quality. The handle has jimping, peel ply G10 scales, and a very solid and thick feeling in the hand. The blade tip is not too thin and the overall fit and finish is excellent especially being a Spyderco made in the USA. One major flaw is if the pivot screw does not have locktite it can loosen quite easily with constant opening on our test model. You can rest assured all the components will last & are high quality. There is a lack of jimping and traction specifically on the handle to help with extracting/withdrawing the knife from the pocket.
//PERFORMANCE
//This knife is truly designed with fighting in mind. There's a grip for your hand no matter how you hold the knife. This is one of the most innovative designs by Spyderco and a true tactical folder. The wave feature works as a thumb ramp. The pocket clip is reversible so you can choose to deploy the knife forwards or backwards using the wave feature on the pants pocket. The cutout in the handle is for the ring finger instead of the typical pinky which provides better grip security and is something more knives should incorporate. |
//CONCEPT
//One of the coolest tactical folders available on the market. A favorite that is incredibly versatile with an ingenious handle design. Made in America using high quality materials. A solid feeling handle with tactical use in mind. This P'kal blade is useable for stabbing motions still in hammer or ice pick grip while still having a slight hawk shaped cutting edge for improved slashing. //ROLE & APPLICATIONS
// With a safety choil in case the knife lock fails this knife is an option for self defense. The lock is well designed and very strong. Easy to disengage even with gloves because of the contoured button. This combined with the strong blade steel, universal handle and options for carry make this a real authentic option for self defense. P'kal blades can stab but this does remove reach because the overall knife is very stick like in shape. The biggest fault is the traction for grabbing the knife and deploying it is not enough because the pocket clip is minimal and the handle G10 does not grip enough.
//FINAL IMPRESSIONS
// One of the most innovative designs by Spyderco. This knife is not a gimmick. Made in the USA with a high level of quality and intelligent features, the P'Kal is one of the classic Spyderco knives that would really benefit from a lanyard hole to aid with drawing the knife out & some jimping on the butt end for grip. The pocket clip is a little too low. There is a hole already in both the steel liners so if someone is willing to drill just through the G10 on both sides then the knife will be perfect. |
