spyderco paramilitary 2 limited edition: superior cts-20cp stainless steel blade

Picture
Picture

Things to consider for buyers:

-Sharpening skill level required: Novice
-We use & recommend a ceramic sharpening system over diamond. Both will give the knife a razor edge but the diamond rod edge doesn't hold
-Note the blade can have slight side play due to manufacturing (watch vid)
-It is not specified what steels the spacers, screws, or liners are so care must be taken to lubricate all areas where metal is touching metal to prevent possibly corrosion
Knife Specs:
Rockwell Hardness: 56-60 (most likely 60)
Overall Length: 8-9/32" 210mm
Blade Length: 3-7/16" 87mm
Blade Thickness: 3.5mm- 3.75mm
Weight: 3.75oz
Stainless: Yes (12.80% Chromium)

important note:

The newly designed pivot makes the Paramilitary 2 have slight side to side movement in the blade when open. It's a very small amount but it's important to mention as some individuals want a knife with none whatsoever. Once in a while out of a group there's a perfectly machined Para 2 with absolutely no side movement. If you are interested in obtaining one of these please email us for info.

The knife is not intended for prying so the slight side to side movement common on paramilitary 2s isn't a concern but we felt it should be mentioned. Also the locking method isn't affected too much by it.

Just look at this chart

s90v is basically the same composition of CTS-20cp. As shown here on this graph thee edge retention is phenomenal in comparison to other available steels.

Spyderco Paramilitary 2 Sprint Run CTS-20CP Steel Special limited production run

Picture
Revolutionary Carpenter Tool Steel (CTS)-20CP is a new steel designed specifically for use in knives. Listed as Micro Melt 420-CW Tool Steel at http://www.cartech.com/techcenter.aspx?id=1692 the knife is a stainless steel used for industrial knives & wear resistant cutlery. Spyderco's Paramilitary is known the world over as an amazing slicer & for 2011 Spyderco released a limited production of the knife in CTS-20CP. Through firsthand experience the blade steel shows an ultra fine edge that's soft enough to catch all materials. The blade is full flat ground.

*CTS-20CP holds an edge longer because of higher vanadium content (9.25% vs S90V 9.00%).

Watch these videos as we show the CTS-20CP cut through S30V!

Evolving the knife: C.Q.I.

Picture
The Paramilitary 2 is the second generation version of the Paramilitary. Spyderco refined the handle ergonomics so that it would be more comfortable in various hand sizes along with adding an improved pivot system that allows for consistently smooth action & less maintenance. The design is a functional, modern approach to knife making, using new concepts that only a large knife manufacturer like Spyderco can successfully implement in their headquarters in Golden, Colorado. Made in the U.S.A.

What you don't see.

The pivot is inset into the stainless steel liners. The new improvement is similar to the Sebenza & is deceiving because one may think the pivot is small because of the screws. This new design allows for easier centering of the blade & no need for locktite from periods of use. It also borrows a design element from Jens Anso by having a notched section on the pivot bushing which keeps the pivot from spinning inside the liners thus preventing uneven wear.
The ultimate lockup. Spyderco's compression lock means that when the knife is receiving positive force it will push the stop pin down onto the lockbar which is jammed into the blade tang, reinforcing the stop pin's effectiveness. When receiving negative force the blade tang will push up on the lockbar & the stop pin. The stop pin is nestled into the steel liners & is thick. This design really adds a lot of metal into the lockup & can be maintained by rotating the stop pin to distribute wear. Also the compression lock cannot disengage when receiving pressure because it is being compressed between the stop pin & blade tang cut out. The lock bar is made of stainless steel which will withstand wear longer than titanium which is a softer metal.

_Brand new in box mint slight side play normally found in this model. Out of 20 knives 7 chosen for best lock up so the side play is very little & may be fixed if I remove the pocket clip covering the pivot & tighten it up. Regardless one of the best Para 2 you will ever see.

#13 Paramilitary 2 CTS-20CP

_Only three out of 20 have no blade play. This is very rare. Search about the subject. Of the 30 I picked up these three are the only ones with literally no blade play. If you're into the knife the combination of steel & lock up is the best of what you may be able to find without directly choosing from in person among a large batch. This knife is no longer in production so we value these highly. Perfect grinds. Longer blade than usual. everything on this one is great so thus the price! $320.00 USD
