Strider Custom SNG Vim Cru Steel

Dwayne Dwyer Custom Vim Cru 20 Chisel Ground
Handle material: Contoured Titanium (unhardened) frame lock. The Concealed Carry (CC) version of the SNG is still the same thickness near the pivot and down the middle of the handle as the regular model SNG which is extremely heavy duty compared to other knives. The CC's rounded down profile makes it less noticeable in the pocket & smoothly glides out of the pocket when deploying compared to the Gunner Grip version which makes the CC more practical. Titanium "flexes" so being this means it's softer & will wear sooner at the tip of the frame lock bar where the lock bar meets the blade tang but is more likely to not disengage.
Display side: Carbon Fiber handle plate with built in back-spacer. The built in back spacer design that Strider uses keeps the handle solid when receiving torsion or bending from hard use. This outstanding feature means stronger construction with less parts.
* Normally on frame lock knives you will see three screws for the handle but there will be spacers in between the two scales. The spacers are an extra piece which require the screws on each side of the handle to be smaller in order to fit through the spacer. Strider's intuitive approach was to reduce the number of parts by removing the individual spacers and making the screws just a female and male which allows for both then to be larger diameter & thus stronger.
Screws & Bull Pivot coated which prevents rust & lowers maintenance.

Video Comparison to S30V
Watch this video & note that when you cut metal with a knife there's heat that will build up because of friction which can cause the edge of the knife to become brittle. Vim Cru's heat resistance allows it to continue cutting without problems. Vim Cru doesn't hold a razor edge well & is better for heavy cutting purposes. If you fine hone the edge it's possible to shave hair. Ceramic rods can deform with sharpening. Diamonds are more effective on this steel.
Things to consider for prospective owners: -Blade steel requires diamond sharpening system -The carbon fiber handle scale is not built for sustaining impacts but the weak areas are not in vital points -If you own other SNGs you can switch handle scales between each other to customize the look & feel of your knife -Forums mention that the blade steel stains (not rusts) easily -Vim Cru 20's will quickly wear out the lock bar (2B Graphite can be used to help preserve it) -Blade can be dry or wet lubricated -Sharpening skill level required: proficient (need consistency to attain edge & a higher edge profile to prevent chipping) -Screws are extremely durable & don't strip over hard use |
Final thoughts on the SNG with Vim Cru Steel

"If I were stuck with only one tool possible & not able to find other resources or if I had other gear & only wanted to pack one knife as a last ditch tool that overall is capable of doing different tasks this is the knife I would pack & I don't have another knife I know of yet that's like this SNG. I wish it had less hotspots on the handle & also a more secure grip for tactical use when considering it as a self defense weapon but the overall construction & materials used for the screws & handles are top notch. If you watched the vid then you know the frame lock is expertly crafted & won't unlock on you which is what counts most but wears quickly. The combination of a hard steel with a Titanium lockbar means you need to know how to maintain the lockup if you intend for your knife to last longer than a few weeks but this is a solid knife for veteran knife owners. The steel is always in need of touch up but the working profile means it's a real world tool that if you respect it for what it is will serve you your whole life."-Dave

1 of 50 SNGs with VimCru steel ever made. Mr. Dwyer stated that Vim Cru 20 wore out the machine used to test wearability of steels so it's edge retention & heat resistance is immeasurable. This is honestly a super steel that is capable of continuously grinding other metals down & last. This is one of my personal. If you really want it you can either email or call me
