Spyderco Paramilitary 2 Sprint Run CTS-20CP Steel Special limited production run

Revolutionary Carpenter Tool Steel (CTS)-20CP is a new steel designed specifically for use in knives. Listed as Micro Melt 420-CW Tool Steel at http://www.cartech.com/techcenter.aspx?id=1692 the knife is a stainless steel used for industrial knives & wear resistant cutlery. Spyderco's Paramilitary is known the world over as an amazing slicer & for 2011 Spyderco released a limited production of the knife in CTS-20CP. Through firsthand experience the blade steel shows an ultra fine edge that's soft enough to catch all materials. The blade is full flat ground.
*CTS-20CP holds an edge longer because of higher vanadium content (9.25% vs S90V 9.00%).

What you don't see.
The pivot is inset into the stainless steel liners. The new improvement is similar to the Sebenza & is deceiving because one may think the pivot is small because of the screws. This new design allows for easier centering of the blade & no need for locktite from periods of use. It also borrows a design element from Jens Anso by having a notched section on the pivot bushing which keeps the pivot from spinning inside the liners thus preventing uneven wear.
The ultimate lockup. Spyderco's compression lock means that when the knife is receiving positive force it will push the stop pin down onto the lockbar which is jammed into the blade tang, reinforcing the stop pin's effectiveness. When receiving negative force the blade tang will push up on the lockbar & the stop pin. The stop pin is nestled into the steel liners & is thick. This design really adds a lot of metal into the lockup & can be maintained by rotating the stop pin to distribute wear. Also the compression lock cannot disengage when receiving pressure because it is being compressed between the stop pin & blade tang cut out. The lock bar is made of stainless steel which will withstand wear longer than titanium which is a softer metal. |
