//Featured Video: Beam shot comparison 50-70ft range
// At a similar size to the Elzetta Charlie AVS & Armytek Predator Pro G2, this video demonstrates the high performance differences in the beam pattern which demonstrates that the Nitecore P16 is designed to work within 50-70 feet but is overpowering and doesn't project the light far enough for more visibility further away. The P16 is a powerhouse light for 30-60 feet broad area illumination and not tailored for specifically long range scanning or penetration through air moisture. Suitable for self defense & intimidation at 20-40 feet of range.

//CONSTRUCTION & DESIGN
// The tail cap has the trademark standing lamp function on Nitecore flashlights. The overall look and feel of the flashlight's coating and texture is not attractive but the functional aspects of the light such as the handle contouring for traction & button feel are all acceptable. The flashlight does feel a little rough around the edges and one weakness is if the head is slightly loosened the flashlight will not operate which is poor for extreme tactical professions. //ROLE & APPLICATIONS
// Generally called a lock out feature, when either end cap is slightly loosened the light will not operate if clicked on. This feature is a design seen primarily on EDC or work related flashlights and is not suited for SAR (search and rescue) or tactical. An example would be you are searching in complete darkness and you accidentally drop your light and it shuts off which would leave you helpless. Another may be if you do utilize the flashlight for striking or if you are moving around with it on your person, when you go to access it the light fails to come on. Based upon independent testing and experience, with the real world output of 960 lumens and a generally narrow beam angle, this light can be used as a blinding weapon absolutely in ranges of 15-25 feet. Then add the fact there's an moderately aggressive striking bezel and tactical ring attachment and this compact light is an aggressive lighting weapon. In more subtle purposes, the larger reflector provides a comparable throw that's equal to other longer range compact competitors but is designed for more mid range wide illumination. Less positive illumination than the distance as a focused long range light like the Armytek Predator produces but it's higher output makes it more effective than the Elzetta Charlie*.

//FINAL IMPRESSIONS
// The truth for this reviewer is once I put the battery in I never took it out again. Despite it's fugly outer appearance this is the least compromising, most affordable & best performing choice for a compact flashlight for civilian self defense or security purposes. Though not designed specifically for tactical requirements like the Armytek Predator Pro G2 or the Elzetta Charlie*, the Nitecore P16 is the brighter up close and at a distance than the Elzetta but not better than the Armytek when it comes to projecting light far or through objects. This light is a high powered EDC role flashlight with some moderate long range capabilities and constant brightness drain pattern.
